Default Shore Diving in Myrtle Beach

My girlfriend has a house in Myrles Inlet just south of Myrtle. We spend a lot of time down there and often go out with Express Water Sports. However, we are both teachers so we can only afford a couple of trips. I was just wondering if there was any shore diving in the area to kill the time in between the charters and put enough fillets in the cooler for a couple of fish sandwiches. I have been on the rock wall off of the back side of Topsail Island several times, but that is almost a 2 hour drive from there. I have also thought about trying to dive the Jetties between Huntington and Garden City, but that would be a pretty long walk with scuba gear. I'm happy if I can just dive in 5' viz and polespear sheepsheads, spades, and flounder. If anyone knows any spots you can get at without a boat, I would love to hear about them.
    Thanks,
    Trey

The only spot is the one you mentioned at the jetties. The vis there is going to be less than you need to shot most of the time. Plus, you are right about hauling the tanks about a mile. That's about it for shore diving.

It may be worth your while to go to charlestonfishing.com and introduce yourself in the Grandstrand section. There are a few guys over there who will let you ride along and split the cost of fuel.

Bummer... Have you actually been diving there at the Jetty in Garden City Anytime? I always thought that at slack tide the viz might not be too bad on the back side. I have fished there alot, and on a day with no wind the water always seems pretty clear to me. I guess I just need to move Bonair so I can shore dive my little heart out.

Trey, I have fished MI tons of times, and it's actually not legal to dive/spear on the south jetty, which is good, because it would be risky on a slow day due to boat traffic.
I've snorkeled around the north jetty, but never saw much - did have some fun acting like I was diving down & collecting 10lb lobsters that we had in the livewell from some 100' dives earlier in the day - too easy to mess with tourists sometimes

No, I do not get in the water at either of the jetties. There are monsters in the water around there and there would be no way to see them coming. Your best bet is to find someone with a boat that will take you out.
