Default Pole spear break away rigging

I have a Riffe travel type pole spear with various extensions. I have used it very little with a break away set up to a float. I have the toggle tip line stopped off with an O-ring and I hold the float line with the same hand that holds the band. Is that what most guys are doing or is there a smarter way someone can tell me about.

If you weren't wouldn't your line float up in your line of sight?

Sounds good to me. Those Riffe carbon fiber spears are very, very fragile, I think that is a good way to keep them from breaking.
