Default The Democrats' health reform plan keeps getting better.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/OPINION/11/0...ory/index.html
Great, just great. However, even if this House bill passes the Senate and gets signed by Obamessiah, how can they revoke states' pre-existing laws capping damages on medical malpractice suits? It doesn't make sense. Of course, nothing about Obamacare seems to make much sense.

The new health bill will empower the Secretary of Health and Human Services to make grants to states that reform their medical malpractice systems. There are just two conditions: Those reforms must not "limit attorneys' fees or impose caps on damages."

They are not making any state do it, they are rewarding those that choose to. Are you shocked or surprised? Its called payback, both parties do it. The trial lawyers are the largest contributors to the Democrat Party so now its their turn, last administration it was the energy industry. In all cases it sucks to high heaven and shows that there really isn't a difference between either scum sucking party.

The "opt-out" option is a sham, plain and simple. There is no true option. You know as well as I that no state will refuse those federal dollars. Regarding your last statement, you are sadly right on the money. I remember when the Republicans were sitting pretty with the private insurance companies. Now the Democrats are receiving the lion's share of lobbyist money from the insurance companies, even though they bite (at least in public) the very hand that feeds them. Where's the difference? Where's the choice? On the one hand, we have private insurance companies and HMO's whose only loyalty is to their bottom line. On the other hand, you have the federal government who wants to increasingly control every aspect of our economy and lives by bilking us of our money, blood, sweat and tears. Something's gotta give.

Both you guys are spot on. Forget Tort reform, opening up insurance lines across state lines and throwing Illeagls out the E.R. door. That would just fix the problem. Instead, Obama, aka Black Hitler, wants to take a clay pot with a few cracks in it, slam it on the ground into pieces, then try and glue it all back together, Bullshit!!! It's not about Health or Care It's about Govt. Control. Nothing else. The state run media would like people to think that 96% of the uninsured will get access to health care. Bullshit again. All you here is Medicare this, Medicare that. When have you heard a freakin word about MEDI-CAID!!!! Which most of the Blunt rolling bottom feeders are all ready on. Of course, their expemt and so are the illeagls from buying into this nightmare of a freedom killing bill. Just the hard working taxpayer gets the fines and the Jail time. Thank god, people are really starting to wake up. I really think that this Chicago Marxist gangster running the country, under estimated the "true" Ameican people. Thats all we really have, because both parties are spineless pieces of shit. Done ranting

I kindly disagree. Meaningful tort reform is one of the 3 pillars that are required to truly repair the American healthcare system. You can do a search for a post I wrote awhile ago that explains the concept. The Democrats' unwillingness to address the medical-legal problem is another one of a long line of reasons why their move to socialized medicine is doomed to failure. Even in European countries with socialized systems (which are contributing to their financial decline), medical lawsuits are very tightly controlled and uncommon. The two other solutions you mentioned will do very little to substantively improve things. They're akin to sticking one's fingers in a disintegrating dike to stop the leaks. We not only need a new dike, but simpler way to channel and access the water.

Pro Son, your right and your wrong. My girlfriend is a honcho with a hospital i will not name. also. half our friends are doctors and they all say that they have to write a dozen un-needed tests just to cover their asses from the Morgans and Morgans out there... Malpractrice insurance is another joke. This is all about unions and full control. These scumbag Obamaites, his faithfull SS/democrat soliders know this is horrible. But like most on the hill, their so freakin drunk with power, that they will go lock step with that 3 headed monster of Obama,Pelosi and Reid to kill this great nation of the U.S.A. This President has his balls tied to George soros's puppet strings. Problem is, right now, most people have no clue whats really happing. A six pack and a # 3 mickey at D's and it's all good to most.

Thanks for your insights, but on this note I again kindly disagree. I think that his supporters in the American public, by and large, are actually well-meaning. Thoroughly misguided..yes. Malicious scumbags...no. I think the latter are largely limited to the upper echelons of the White House, Congress, the Democratic Party, and a number of special interest groups (ACORN, etc.). Sadly there are at least the same number on the Republican side of the aisle too. As the old saying goes: The road to hell is paved with good intentions. I have a number of family, friends and co-workers who support a number of Obama's socialist and globalist aims, including nationalized healthcare and govermental control of energy and financing, ceding more sovereign authority to the UN and other non-US entities over national issues in the interest of world peace and a establishing a global community. The common theme underlying their arguments is one of the "moral" imperative of achieving parity. While their beliefs would make Karl Marx proud and ultimately destroy this country and her liberties that so many fought for, their intent is in some ways laudable. At face value, many of them are better people than you and I. However, being a good person doesn't necessarily make you right (all of the time). It's easy to vent our frustration through the internet over the decay of our Constitution, society and country. Maybe it's even cathartic and therapeutic. However, I caution you against believing that somehow our fellow citizens, no matter how misguided, are inherently evil or malicious because they disagree with us. We're no better than them. I constantly have to catch myself since I'm especially prone to making this mistake.
