Default Roller guns??

Do any local guys make roller guns? Has anyone tried one? It seems like a great way to get more power out of a single band gun.

I found this site, some cool looking guns:

I like this one: mungo 80 roller

I've thought of converting one of my guns, looks like you can maximize power with a shorter gun.I'd thing it would not be hard to fit the inner races of some bearings on the wood guns and tweak til right.

It seems you would get continuous smooth power out of the bands through the entire pull of the shaft vs. the bands contracting completely with the shaft only half way out the track.

In other words, you'll gain the length of the relaxed bands in extra pull strength.

Very interesting design. But, IMO, simplicity in design is key to be an effective spearfisherman. What does a pulley-banded system really buy you? Sure, you may have more power or a smoother impulse curve but at what cost and what does it really buy you in terms of effectivity? If you lose the pulley band at depth, will it be easy to replace at depth, or will you have the redundancy of a second band?

I find it entertaining to watch how people want to take a simple, effective speargun design that has worked over the past 40 years and try to make it complicated for very little benefit. Sometimes the design advances actually seem worth it, most times however, it seems like unnecessary complication. When it gets down to it, look at the people who make their living off shooting fish, and some of the best, like for example Dan M, Kevin B, and The Great One, and it all comes down to the single band slinging a 60" shaft from a beat up 10 year old gun.
