Default beginner gun for striped bass

hey guys. im sam, im from connecticut. im pretty new to the sport, ive spearfished with my dad when i was a little kid but thats about it. a few friends and i are looking to get into free diving for striped bass and tautog in the new england area. my question is what would be a good quality gun to start myself out with? i was looking at 110cm mako's and jbl woody's online, and found a 90cm omer for sale cheap in my area. how are those guns for reliability and accuracy? the price seems pretty decent to me. is a 110 enough for 50lbs stripers? what kind of band setup would i want to go with? reels? what else do i need to get myself started? any advice you guys could give would be great. looking foward to chatting with you all.

Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bird for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad fish. Not like going down to the pond and chasing bluegills and tommycocks. This shark, swallow you whole. No shakin', no tenderizin', down you go.-Quint

Check out his website, I think a 90cm Pelaj would be fine. He is a stand up guy and will treat you right. Tell him you're a beginner and he will set you up with the right gun, I would recommend driving up to Newport to meet him. He may be able to introduce you to some local spearos, you never know but its good to meet the local divers.
