    Default Back In Black

    Specs:

    Configuration: Rear Handle
    Overall Length: 53”
    Spear: 53 ¾”
    Wood: Laminated Padauk
Mech & Line Anchor: Neptonics Stealth
    Handle: Neptonics
    Enclosed Track: Graphite/Epoxy
Self-reset Line Release: Hidden under handle
Finish: Tinted West Systems Epoxy sanded for matte finish

A family friend asked if I would build a gun for her son. My immediate reply was “Yes, as long as there is no schedule” As this was a surprise birthday gift, I did not have the luxury of discussing the build with the final user. After much deliberation, I decided it would be best to go with the rear handle configuration that 90% of the commercial hunters use on the Florida coast – it’s hard to argue the success of this design. After exchanging a couple of drawings, and selecting Neptonics prototype handle design (this is S/N 3), construction began in February. I already had a couple of blanks made up, so machining the wood and custom parts for the line release went pretty quickly.

The matte black finish did not go so quickly

Love that matte black finish! Very nice looking gun.

matte black is my favorite! You sir have built a gorgeous gun! The new neptonics handle goes perfect with the finish.

    Thanks for the kind feedback

Carlo turned 24 back in April, he saw progress photos and design drawings on his birthday (he lives in California, but Mom lives in the Florida Keys). Finished photos were sent out yesterday dangling the carrot to get himself down to the Keys to try it out.

Btw, for all practical purposes this is his first gun - a heck of lot different than my first one

Do you have to make the bands after you install them thru the stock?

Yep, the bands are tied in place.

The line anchor is positioned to accomodate a band changing slot if he wants me to cut one later, but if he doesn't, then it keeps the muzzle lines cleaner looking.
