I'm no gun builder but I love roller guns so much, I enlisted the help of Bubba and Ken H to help me build my second roller. My first was a single action 48" roller that I made from a cut down Deathstick.
This is a custom enclosed track 57" double action roller, Wong/Aimrite trigger mech, Deathgrip handle, RA reel, Neptonics line hardware. It shoots like a laser with almost zero recoil. I made 2 -19" bands tied in with 2 wishbones. I can't load it to the third bottom loading tab, so I'm going to make some longer bands. Here are the pics: |

Beautiful! I love roller guns. They seem so simple, but it can be tough to get everything working the way you want it to.

That is so cool- I've done some designs of roller guns in my computer, but haven't taken the plunge and tried to make it work yet. I was going to have two sets of rollers so the loading force wouldn't be so dramatic- but it makes the layout more complicated because I was going to have offset axles.
I'll send you the sketch if you want Charile.

This gun was an absolute CHAMP the other day! It was pretty sweet to actually see it in action. The power vs no recoil was unreal for its size.

Mr. Hammer;
You and Charlie really did an incredible job finishing up the blank that I dropped off. It looks and functions better than I thought possible. Bubba |

Hey guys!
First time posting something on the forum. Let me say... after looking around the forum for about a month or so, i decided the gun that i want to build its a roller. And if could come out looking like yours, i will be one happy fella. Question for you is where do you buy your hardware? I have neptonic website, scubaworld and mako. But can't find the pulley wheel and the bracket. Any suggestions? |

Pulley wheel is a "delrin roller". Found online.
Hammer cut the stainless plate that supports the roller pin. The roller pin is a stainless sex bolt. Online. Trigger- Wong Handle - Deathgrip Small parts- Neptonics |

Chuck, have you thought about doing an old school style roller gun? They used a lever, and you cocked your gun, with the lever forward, which made the band tight, and then you pull the lever back which really stretches the band, and it locks in place. They had much more power than this style. The way I tie my bands now, you couldnt get it back another inch, so if you can stretch the bands manually some more, they are just too long. The lever roller guns stretch it very tight. Look into that if you want more power.

I adjusted the band length and the loading tabs. And it's a cannon now. I've bent 2 shafts shooting the reef fish, and that's on the 2nd tab only. C |

Cool! The band alignment looks like it would be perfect for no kick up. How is that? My big gun has perfect band alignment and it has no kick up with 2 - 11/16ths bands that are super tight. Just a sharp push back. One hand. Deadly accurate too. I used to use 3/4ths bands, but got a bunch of 11/16ths since Lynn couldnt pull back 3/4ths and tight bands. It was perfect then too. How did you bend your shafts? Hitting the reef?

Yes Steve, shooting mangos against the reef.
No kick up, and almost no kick back. C |

Charlie, did you ever research the lever roller gun? That would put a lot of power in your gun. The bands are shorter, and the lever picks up the band (which should be very tight) just under the roller. You grab the lever and swing it back and lay it under the gun, and the back of the band is now about where your 3rd undergun notch is. It would pivot about where your second notch is. I reread your first post and if your bands are 19" now with wishbones, that makes the band total about 40", that is twice as long as a normal band for that size gun, and you only have one band. You could use a lot shorter band and use leverage to pull it back. Check that out.

Here's the first one I built a while back. Working on two more right now. I prefer the lever action because it gives you a mechanical advantage when cocking the second stage. Definitely more complicated to build, though.
