Default Scenario 7

You are on a boat and you hear the sound of a gun going off. After detemining that a PH has been accidently discharged, you realize that one of the crew has been shot.

Start checking on the area where the person was shot. Start first aide, if it is a life threatening wound, get the Coast Guard on the way to meet you as you come to shore. If not start heading in to get the person checked out at the ER.

Also, after assessing the person, check the boat out where they were to make sure the round did not put a hole in the boat so that you can make it to shore.

Direct pressure over the wound. Tear off a piece of a towel or other absorbent material and use it to stop the bleeding. once you put it on don't peek. If it bleeds through put another dressing over the original and keep pressure on the wound. If bleeding is severe call for coast guard. while making a dash for the coast. If in doubt at all call immediately. Always err on the conservative side. If you can't stop the the bleeding with direct pressure you can use pressure points to slow the bleeding or lastly a tourniquet. If you use the tourniquet you may be dooming the limb, but better save the patient and loose the limb.

If this is a chest wound you will need to stop the bleeding with direct pressure. If it a sucking chest wound you will need to use an occlusive dressing. Something that will seal the wound, plastic, aluminum foil, etc tape three corners of the dressing and burp the air from the wound as the patient breaths. This is an attempt to keep the lung inflated.

An ounce of prevention is worth more than a ton of cure. Whoever left that loaded powerhead on the boat would be subject to some serious civil liability, and rightfully so. That is bullshit!
