Yep, had that happen once. All my numbers are backed up and then uploaded to the web.

This is the main reason why I highly recommend using an external waypoint management software like Offshore Hunter, Mapsource, Andren, etc... I would be super pissed if I lost all my numbers. I don't keep dive logs, but I do review all new numbers and catches from a day, and try to note them in the waypoint name or comments, if exceptional.

I burn a backup disc every few months as I constantly add stuff.I print a hard copy every 2 years or so as #s get confirmed and new stuff gets found.

I had a hard drive melt down a few years ago and a lot just had to be re-entered but a little was lost

Been there. Lost some when sideways rain got into my Furuno machine in a tropical storm this summer and toasted the unit. I try to copy the new ones down every few months. Then again its been a while.....Thanks for the reminder.

Wow, that would suck...Could you imagine being a commercial guy back in the day without the help of computers and such. Just go out o day to make your living and all your numbers just be missing...Talk about near suicide...

I made a trip with a very well known guy last January. Hella good freediver, being spearing for a LONG time. His numbers was spectacular! not too mention he had a personal log he kept in a trapper keeper. Every page was laidout with such good details I was in awe at the amount of time spent just in documanting his previous dives.

The only thing to keep in your GPS is various starting points for the day and maybe some well known locations i.e. wrecks, oh and home. The rest of my spots are in a book and saved on two seperate computers with back up disc's burned occasionally.

I've developed some software that has really been working well for me. If any of you are interested in a free trial (FL ONLY for now), send me your #'s along with a brief description of the bottom structure. You can update the data quarterly by sending me any new numbers. I'll return a CD with all of the information to you in an intuitive, interactive format. So far, the program only works with Windows OS... sorry MAC.

Yeah, I have as well, but mine works with both operating systems. Everyone send me their numbers with a brief description of the number and I'll send you quarterly updates on how productive they've been (FL only).

How coincidental! I, too, am developing my own software for waypoint management. So if you send me all your numbers, I'll send you a list of them in an even nicer txt format, will give them much cooler names like: GoatDickRock27, rustystringer22, lostlight12, etc. Not only that, I'll include a thumbnail picture of all the fish shot on the spot! Folks, this is a limited time offer, that isn't available anywhere else. Not on TV, not on other forums, but here on SFP. Just send in your numbers and 3 payments of $19.95 plus shipping and handling and wait 6 weeks delivery.

BUT WAIT

If you act now I'll include a high tech, aerospace quality snorkel keeper. Thats right! Call now.
