Question Older Sitex Bottom Finder

Since my last post I believe I've made up my mind on getting a Gps unit. I also have an older Sitex fishfinder that the transducer has been cut off of. My question is would I be crazy to invest any money in the new transducer? Or save my money and invest in some other suggestions like the furuno bottom finder?

Also is the side scan and down imaging and 3-D stuff all its cracked up to be?

I do not have any experience with this as i have always had your run of the mill fishfinder. Mostly fishing freshwater so I didn't need the extra electronics as i mainly fished shallow lakes.
